Studio 2 began with my good friend Tim Leslie many years back. When he and I set out on our artistic adventure we kept the name and the rest is history. Our first addition was Phyllis Swanson, local artist and all together great person. From there we have had a wonderfully talented group of apprentice artists who have added to the Studio 2 family. Some have gone on to great artistic success of their own and all have remained good friends.
We even have a mascot! Scruffy the Scrub Jay who has been with us for years is now coming by each morning for a visit. Check out this section for pictures of many of our old friends and a sense of the fun we have each day making art together.
Ron Juncal
Ron Juncal
R.D. Juncal is the owner of Studio 2 in Carlsbad, California. He is an award winning artist whose work is in the collections of many prominent celebrities and business figures. Television, magazines and print media have all covered his artistic journey.
Born in Washington D.C. and spending his early years in the East it was not until reaching Palos Verde’s, California, a coastal peninsula outside of Los Angeles, that his artistic expressions began to take shape. Working in a variety of mediums during the 1960's he pursued his art education both in Los Angeles and at Humboldt University in Northern California. The strong images from this era combined with the influence of the natural Southern California coastal lifestyle, allow a spectrum of creative approaches. Working in acrylic, collage, oils and 3-D, Juncal uses graphic image and color to create emotion and life.
Juncal is a very outgoing personality who enjoys working with others in the creative process. He has given opportunity to young artists to work side by side with him and the other award winning artists that make up the performance art teams. This renaissance approach of the gathering of artists combined with the development of young apprentices is a key to Juncal's philosophy and stems from his deep spiritual beliefs.
As the artistic visionary at Studio 2, Juncal has developed and coordinated various performance art pieces ranging from a 65' X 17' mural created in pastel on pavement, to work sponsored yearly in the distinguished I'Madonnari Italian Art Festival in Santa Barbara, California. His creations have been featured at the Paint the Bay Festivals in San Diego, California as well as Chalk La Strada in Little Italy and the Bella Via Festival in Valencia, He also co-created ArtSplash, a fine arts celebration that draws over 35,000 people each year to his home town of Carlsbad, Ca. These visual experiences, as well as the many others that he has designed and coordinated have given thousands of viewers the chance to see the creation of art. Whether working with a team or on his own, his energy and creative artistic approach is reflected in each work of art.
Mr. Juncal has been actively involved in the arts community for many years. He has served as an Arts commissioner and a juror for the selection of public art for the City of Carlsbad, California. He has also designed and created public art pieces for both the City of Carlsbad and the City of Oceanside, California.
